Baby love

There was a huge rummage sale at the Lakeside school this weekend. Lakeside is the super ritzy private high school in Seattle, alma mater to Bill Gates. Anyhow, it is agreat place to get cheap, but good quality baby stuff. I got a big bag of books-- lots of old favorites that I completely forgot exsisted and never thought I'd see again: Rikki Tikki Tembo, Ant and Bee, The Amazing Bone, Curious George Gets a Medal (and the Dinosaur), Millicent the Monster, The Little Fur Family, Noah's Ark, and The REAL Mother Goose...Also tons of little board books to keep Ellie busy. She loves looking at books!

While looking through the piles and piles of baby stuff, I found this poor old doll-- stained, ugly, and naked. She is one of those freaky drink and pee dolls with an oddly disturbing hole at two ends. Despite her rather unfortunate condition, she had a sweet face and called out to me, and I couldn't resist. Every little girl needs a doll, right? So I brought her for $2.00 and brought her home. I put her in a diaper and introduced her to Elena. She was mesmerized! She carefully inspected her and then gave her a kiss. It was very sweet.

Little pumpkin

Here is Ellie sporting her Halloween jammies. It is a 12-18-month-size! She is really getting to be a giant. Thanks for all the great hand-me-downs, Hahn-Youngs!

Finisterra at Benaroya Hall

This weekend, Finisterra had its long awaited concert at Benaroya Hall in Seattle! They were absolutely outstanding. I am so very proud of my husband, Kwan Bin and Tanya.
I sat through the entire concert in awe.

A little bit bigger and that's okay

I love seeing how much Ellie is growing. She finally has grown in to her exersaucer and really seems to enjoy it. A couple months ago, she just found it frustrating and overwhelming.

Family resemblences

This is me at some age...probably over a year because I am eating an apple. Does Elena look anything like me? I think there are some resemblences... the blond hair, something about the shape of the head, the ears... Perhaps more striking is my resemblance to my mom.

Here is Kevin, also probably closer to a year old here. Again, similarities in the blond hair, shape of the head, ears...hmmmm...Elena also totally has a Krentz mouth, though you can't tell as well in this picture.
But most interesting of all is Kevin's resemblance to his Dad!

For Elizabeth and David

Ebee and David are in Florida this year and missing the fall glory (and we are missing all the beautiful photos of trees and leaves that they usually provide) so I thought I'd send a few pictures of the trees around Seattle in honor of them.

A celebration of small hard foods

I just wanted to share with you all that after THREE years of teaching, I finally am able to stomach breakfast in the mornings before I teach. Yes, I have what you might call a "sensitive stomach." Hooray for Grapenuts! I also wanted to say that while Washington State apples are supposed to be the best ever, they PALE in comparison to apples from the midwest. This Honey crisp is nice and firm and sweet (and best apple you can get around here right now), but it is far far inferior to any fall apple I have had in Indiana or Michigan. There is nothing tarter and sweeter than a small ripe Golden Delicious from the Bloomington Farmer's Market.

check out those eyes

Here is a picture of Elena enjoying a piece of bread with her highly seasonal Halloween bib. Notice how her eye color has changed... I think they are getting more brown and less blue, but mainly very gray. I wonder what color they will turn out to be!

when daddies dress babies

Kevin takes care of Elena 2-3 mornings a week this quarter. I hate to leave them all warm and cozy in bed in the mornings, but they seem to be bonding and having a great time together. Kevin brings the high chair and play mat into the studio and practices away while Elena eats and hangs out. Thankfully, she is far from crawling, so he can get a lot done with her playing on her rug next to him. So far, he has only had a few bad daddy moments. One: he didn't strap her into her swing for her nap and she fell out. Two: he didn't change her diaper the entire morning (5 hours). Three: he dressed her in this outfit. Pastel flowers and primary stripes??? What was he thinking?
